Lessons at the park with nursery Champs @ Paragon, Orchard

June 11, 2018

It’s never a dull moment at this nursery in Orchard Road! In the past few weeks, the Nursery 2 Champs at MindChamps PreSchool @ Paragon (Orchard) had been exploring various insects and bugs during lessons in the classroom.

Now they finally get to head outdoors and wrap up their lessons on minibeasts in a more hands-on and interactive manner.

From the classroom to the park

With the Champion teachers leading the troop from their nursery at Orchard Road, the Champs went on a bug hunting expedition at Toa Payoh Town Park. Together, they strolled through the open park to search for mini beasts and learnt about the various insects and their habitat.

The Champs were very eager to observe how these organisms made the grounds of the park their home sweet home.

The wonderful world of bugs

Armed with tools such as magnifying glasses, insect nets and bug jars, the nursery Champs and teachers scoured the park for various invertebrates.

They got up-close to various insects and bugs such as the brightly coloured butterflies who were flying and feeding on flowers. Then they captured various species of dragonflies and damselflies near the pond, and witnessed how water sliders skipped across the water.

The highlight of the “lesson” was when they found a strange-looking wasp called the “Mud Dauber”.

Naturally curious nursery Champs @ Paragon, Orchard

Our teachers from our nursery at Paragon, Orchard, led the Champs in digging the ground, turning over leaves and stones as well as examining the tree trunks to search for other creepy crawlies and the “homes” built by insects.

After all the hard work in hunting bugs, the Champs and their teachers spent some time in one of the sheltered areas to take pictures of the bugs that they caught earlier, discuss the variety of minibeasts that lived in the park and simply to relax while munching on snacks.

Catch and release

At the end of the day, the teachers highlighted to the Champs the important role that the minibeasts play in the environment. So, the next thing they did before leaving the park was to release the minibeasts so that they could head back to the safety and comfort of their homes.

It was truly an amazing experience for our nursery Champs and teachers!
