Our MindChamps Reading programme for N2 focuses on building a solid foundation for reading. Through the programme, your child will gain exposure to four essential areas in language development – reading, pre-writing, speaking and listening. During classes, trainers will read curated books with your child and ask simple questions to encourage him/her to think more deeply about the story and its characters. Multisensory activities will also be incorporated in lessons to develop your child’s phonemic awareness as he/she learns to identify unique sounds in spoken words. To better prepare your child for writing, he/she will be introduced to pre-writing activities like pattern-making and the preformation of letters.
- Recognise letters and sounds of the alphabets, and write his/her own name and other common 3- and 4-letter words.
- Expand the use of spoken vocabulary.
- Tell and retell stories confidently.
- Understand the basics of print, such as capital letters and punctuation.
Our MindChamps Reading programme for K1 focuses on further developing your child’s four essential areas in language development. During classes, your child will be exposed to a broader range of text formats, participate in discussions about stories and passages that he/she has read and learn to share his/her opinions confidently with peers. This will help your child hone oral (speaking) and receptive (listening) skills. Our trainers will also demonstrate correct reading behaviours and guide your child closely to expand his/her vocabulary, strengthen his/her phonics foundation and explore new text formats.
- Use extensive spoken vocabulary and be able to appreciate and narrate stories in his/her own words.
- Write about personal experiences using correct grammar and punctuation marks.
- Identify digraphs (a combination of two letters representing one sound, as in ph)
- Develop strong comprehension skills and be able to respond to questions and participate in discussions confidently.
Our MindChamps Reading programme for K2 will focus on helping your child practise and master the key areas of language. At this stage, your child will have built a solid foundation in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and is ready to discover how a language can be used in different ways and for various purposes. In class, your child will be encouraged to express personal thoughts and feelings in both verbal and written form. Our trainers will also guide your child to relate simple analogies to his/her experiences by identifying and verbally expressing a connection between themes and ideas.
- Read passages confidently with an active understanding of story points, and be able to relate those points to his/her life.
- Grasp basic grammar rules and be able to use correct punctuation marks, grammar structures, conjunctions and adverbial phrases.
- Express ideas, feelings and information in written form.
- Construct simple sentences and compose his/her own stories.
