Your common questions, answered.

To help you maximise your Q&A time during the Virtual Open Day, we’ve prepared the following guide to answer some of your most commonly asked questions.

Want to learn about the curriculum at our performing arts preschool? Read more here.

How is the Performing Arts PreSchool’s curriculum different from the regular MindChamps PreSchool one?

The academic curriculum taught at MindChamps Performing Arts PreSchool is exactly the same as that taught at other MindChamps PreSchools. Your child will not experience any reduction in the level of preparation or skills-building he/she receives.

What is different, however, are the specialist modules in Drama, Dance, Music and Singing. These will replace some of our existing enrichment modules and have been fully integrated with the academic curriculum to deepen your child’s understanding in all areas.

What exactly are the performing arts? Why should I be interested in them?

The performing arts refer to creative activities performed in front of an audience, such as singing, dancing, acting or playing an instrument.

Every culture in the world and across history has its own unique forms of the performing arts. Entire countries and races derive their identities from one or more performing arts forms.

Almost every kind of entertainment we have is related to the performing arts, from the National Day Parade and our favourite TV shows to Zumba and karaoke.

What benefits can my child get from an education in the performing arts?

Research has proven that the benefits of participating in performing arts programmes are valuable and numerous. A 2004 study by University of Toronto psychology professor Glenn Schellenberg, for example, showed that the IQs of 6-year-olds increased by three points after a year of music training.

Exposure to the performing arts has also been linked to improvements in areas such as emotional control, linguistic expression, fine motor skills and numeracy, reaping enormous rewards for the development of a child’s whole brain.

It’s time to let go of the misconception that the performing arts are useful only for those considering a long-term career as a performer or artist – your child has much to benefit from as well!

Will there be specialist teachers for the performing arts components?

Your child will be taught by full-time performing arts educators who will build a nuanced understanding of the elements of performance, opening doors for him/her to further develop his/her talents in the future.

These specialist teachers have training in their respective art forms as well as relevant teaching experience in working with young children.

What special items will I have to purchase for my child if he/she enrols?

Your child will need a dance outfit and, depending on his/her level, either one or two kinds of recorder. From 2021 onwards, your child K1 & K2 Champs will also need to have their own violin.

We have partnered with Yamaha to provide the most affordable rates and highest-quality instruments for all of our Champs.

How will my child be assessed?

Your child will be assessed termly according to a rubric based on the 5Cs – Collaboration, Creativity, Confidence, Communication and the Champion Mindset. Each of these traits represents a life skill that will serve your child well in situations throughout his/her life.

Progress will be pegged to age-appropriate outcomes for each level from PG to K2, which teachers will assess based on their observations across the whole term.
