The north of Singapore is generally perceived as being quiet and laid-back, with nothing much to do or nice places to visit.
But did you know there are numerous parks, cafes and even petting zoos that you can visit with your children after preschool in the Woodlands area? You can also use these places to extend your kid’s learning beyond the walls of their childcare centres or kindergartens.
Woodlands Waterfront Park
Take a leisurely stroll by the straits
Home to the longest recreational jetty in Singapore, this park not only offers a view of the Johor Strait but jogging and cycling trails in the 11-hectare park.
You can try your hand at fishing here or have a picnic after a busy day at preschool in Woodlands. The cycling trail here also features a range of slopes that will keep the older children excited. For adventurous kids, the playground has a two-storey high crow net bridge called the Sky Walk.
After a fun afternoon out, you can head to Rasa Istimewa Woodlands Waterfront Restaurant for some comfort food.

The Animal Resort
Get up close and personal with our furry and feathered friends
Although the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari are near Woodlands, this “kampong style” petting zoo in Seletar West offers a different kind of animal interaction.
This sanctuary hosts over 11 types of birds, including the exotic Marabou Stork. The birds roam free, so visitors can have fun feeding and observing them. Besides birds, the Animal Resort is also home to a variety of four-legged friends like a retired racehorse, rabbits and guinea pigs.
Admission is free and food for the animals is available for a nominal fee, so you could easily spend half a day here relaxing with your kids.

Citrus by the Pool
Savour delightful fusion dishes at Woodlands Swimming Complex
Most northerners would have been to the Woodlands Swimming Complex, but the restaurant just adjacent to the pool is less well known.
The halal-certified restaurant Citrus By The Pool serves western and Asian fusion dishes at really affordable prices (and no service charge). Some of their popular dishes include Tom Yum Seafood Pasta and Nyonya Style Fish Rice. They also serve light bites such as Chilli Chicken Fries and Molten Chocolate Cake.
This is the perfect spot for parents to enjoy a nice meal while the kids have fun in the pool.

Take a walk through colonial history at this park
Another park located near your kid’s childcare centre in Woodlands is Sembawang Park.
Visitors can walk along the same pathways that were utilised during the British occupation, as well as what remains of the 1920s Seletar Pier.
There are also other historical buildings nearby like the Sembawang memorial, Kampong Wak Hassan, Masjid Petempatan Melayu Sembawang and Admiralty House. The Sembawang Shipyard, which was once a British Naval Base, is also within walking distance.
If you are feeling worn out from all the walking, you are in luck because the park has a very interesting restaurant – scroll down to the next listing to read more!

Beaulieu House at Sembawang Park
Enjoy the breathtaking scenery while savouring delicious food
The Beaulieu House restaurant sits atop a hill in Sembawang Park, with a spectacular view of the sea and a history dating back to 1910.
The house is said to be the house of an old mining family and has been converted into a Chinese and Western restaurant. It is near the Battleship playground, so kids can entertain themselves while the adults help themselves to some of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Give their delectable sliced squid and tofu dishes a try, or tuck in to their roast lamb if you are looking for a hearty western fare.
Address: 117 Beaulieu Road, Sembawang Park, Singapore 759837
Opening Hours: Mondays to Saturdays 11am – 2.30pm & 6pm – 11pm, Tuesdays and Sundays 11am – 11pm
Relax in nature after a long day in preschool in Woodlands
Besides all these places, Marsiling Park (formerly known as Woodlands Town Garden) is also nearby. Since the raining season is over, you can enjoy a nice picnic or a bike ride with your kids after their day ends in their preschool in woodlands.
