1. Sengkang Riverside Park

Take your preschooler on a nature walk to explore Sengkang Riverside Park. This hidden gem which is often overshadowed by the more popular Punggol park has a lot to offer.

Go hiking on the park’s many trails to view their manually planted marshes. Also, explore the different fruit trees planted around the park. This is a good chance to teach about local fruits that you can identify in this park. These include the star fruit, the chiku and the dragon fruit.

While you are at the riverside park, do not forget to make your way to Singapore’s largest man-made wetland which is located within the park.

2. Sengkang Floating Island

The Sengkang Floating Island is the largest man-made wetland that is home to many species of birds and fish. Go on a leisurely stroll on the boardwalks and enjoy the scenic views with your preschool kid.

This floating wetland also provides a seamless connection between Anchorvale Community Club, Sengkang Sports Complex and Sengkang Riverside Park. If you like to teach about the wetlands, visit PUB’s  (Singapore National Water Agency) website where you can download the teaching guide. Use the guide to go on a self-guided learning trail with your child.

The Sengkang Floating Island is accessible via bus service 85 and Farmway LRT.

3. Sengkang Sculpture Park

The Sengkang sculpture park may look like any other nondescript park amongst the HDB estates but it does have its own unique features. Besides being a regular park for jogging and fitness activities, it is dedicated to different art sculptures all across its sprawling grounds.

Some of the art sculptures such as ‘bubbles’ and ‘rotating fish motif’ are movable. Park users are encouraged to interact with it. Take your preschool child to Sengkang sculpture park for an Arts in the Park programme today.

4. Sengkang Fire Station

If your child is not attending preschool on a Saturday, definitely consider signing yourself up for the open house at Sengkang Fire Station. The Sengkang Fire Station is the biggest fire station in Singapore spanning over 7,000 square metres.

At the open house, your child can don a firefighter’s hat and experience what a firefighter does. This experiential learning journey also allows your child to catch a glimpse of the specialised equipment that is used during fire-fighting.

These visits are open to the public every Saturday morning.
